to building

I began with the fundamentals: how software is structured, how its parts communicate and why some decisions make a system easier to understand and maintain.

As I learned, I kept building. That made the lessons concrete and gave me the confidence to take on work that had to do more than run on my own computer.

My first professional experience was a software development internship at Pandora Brands / Proximity Agency. I contributed to features across the interface, backend and data, and worked through the testing, review and deployment that turn code into shared work.

The internship was brief, but it changed how I approached the work. Other people had to review what I wrote, rely on it and maintain it after I moved on, so clarity and follow-through mattered as much as getting the feature to run.

Kairos asked for a different level of responsibility. Instead of contributing one part, I had to make decisions across the product and live with how those decisions affected everything else.

Kairos is a Shopify-connected platform for profitability, inventory and commerce intelligence. Building it meant thinking about the accuracy of the numbers, what happens when a service fails, how a new user finds their way around and how the product stays secure and maintainable as it grows.

That experience made the next step clear: I wanted a company where I could keep developing products and apply the same care to client work with specific business needs.

I created J&R Technologies to do those two kinds of work under one company.

Client work begins with a need a business already has. Products begin with a problem J&R chooses to pursue and continues to develop. The work is different, but both require understanding the problem, making sound decisions and following through on the result.
